SPERM.
SPERM. is an immersive multi-media installation by artist/photographer Eva Mueller and composer/music producer Man Parrish, the creator of the infamous SPERM party. This exhibition presents never-before-seen photographs from 2008-2009, celebrating the newly released photography book of the same name by Eva Mueller.
SPERM. invites guests into the lower level of Satellite Art Club. The experience consists of large-scale photos, rare video footage projections, light- and sound-scapes, club music, and the party’s signature black plastic sheeting maze to walk through. Live go-go boys and spinning disco balls further activate the space.
SPERM was New York City’s longest-running nightclub party from 1998 to 2013 at the CockBar in the East Village. It ran every Sunday for 15 years, never missing a night. Man Parrish and his crew would completely transform the space for each SPERM party, staging ever-changing environmental installations and live performances.
Despite the fact that cameras were verboten there, Mueller managed to capture the raw hot eroticism and primal energy of SPERM through the lens of an active participant rather than that of an outside voyeur. Mueller’s atmospheric images in SPERM. have now become archival documentation of a significant part of the history of New York City’s gay nightlife culture.
